Bridge Repairs Will Close I-96 Between MLK and Lansing Road
According to the Lansing State Journal, drivers heading west on Interstate 96 just south of Lansing will have to take a different route for more than a week when bridge repairs begin tonight.
The Michigan Department of Transportation is investing about $1.3 million to perform critical preventive maintenance and repair work on I-96 where it spans the Grand River and Billwood Highway in Eaton County.
As part of that work, MDOT will shut down one direction of a 31/2 mile stretch of the interstate at a time. Each side will be closed for about nine days while crews work on the bridges.
Westbound I-96 will be closed between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (M-99) and Lansing Road beginning at 9 p.m. tonight and will reopen at 5 a.m. July 29.
Eastbound I-96 will close along that same stretch from 9 p.m. Aug. 2 until 5 a.m. Aug. 12.
Periodic nighttime lane closures will take place throughout the project to accomplish remaining work.
