This morning's "Wake Up and Know Something" trivia question asked what year CDs outsold cassettes and vinyl records combined. The options were 1992, 1994 or 1996 with 1992 being the winning year.

Which made me think of the Columbia House Records club, which of course I joined when I was about 14 years old. WOW! 12 cassettes for a PENNY! I filled out my order form, making sure to include Ozzy Osbourne's "Bark at the Moon" and KISS "Destroyer". Of course, I never asked my parents for permission to sign up for it, so I was on the hook, even though I later learned that minors are not legally held responsible in contracts.

After mentioning the Columbia House mail order music mail order offer on-air, our pal Hank Studly called to say that he also joined the club. He said that his grandfather wrote a check to fulfill his monetary obligation. Hank worked off the debt to his grandfather by washing his Buick every weekend for a LONG time.
