Price gouging is when unscrupulous merchants artificially inflate the price of goods and services in order to make an excessive profit at the expense of consumers. In most cases, it's an illegal practice.
Gas prices in Genesee County are averaging right around $4.25 per gallon for regular, but Gas Buddy reports that a couple of stations in Flint are just a shade below $4 at the time of this writing.
- BP at 5520 N. Genesee Rd., Flint $3.99
- Sunoco at 5272 Genesee Rd., Flint - $3.99
On the other end, you'll find gas priced as high as $4.29 per gallon at a couple of stations in Grand Blanc.
Price Gouging Can Happen Anywhere
While things seem to be on the up-and-up here in Genesee County, some people are reporting that gas prices are approaching $5 per gallon in the Metro Detroit area.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel says her office is eager to investigate price gouging.
"You can contact us at the department of the Attorney General and we'll let you know," Nessel says in the video below. "Do you think that maybe you're paying too much for gas? Ask us and we can check it out."
