Are You Strong Enough to Pass the Michigan State Police Physical Exam?
Growing up one of the jobs I dreamed of doing as an adult was to be a police officer.
A lot of my family were city cops, county sheriffs, and several Michigan State Police Troopers.
I looked up to them as heroes and dreamed of catching the bad guys and helping people in need one day.
I ended up discovering my love for radio and the rest is history, but I've always wondered what it would take to become a Michigan State Trooper.
Are You Strong Enough to Pass the Michigan State Police Physical Exam?
To become an MSP Trooper you have to take the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards physical test (MCOLES) physical fitness test which consists of four separate events.
Let's Get Physical
The four tests you have to take on include vertical jump, sit-ups, push-ups, and 1/2 mile shuttle run.
Vertical jump
The vertical jump test is a test of lower body power, which measures how high an individual can jump vertically.
Sit-ups
The sit-up test is a measure of abdominal and hip flexor muscular endurance. The test requires the subject to perform as many sit-ups as possible within a set time period.
Push-ups
The push-up test is a fitness test that measures upper body strength and endurance.
1/2 mile shuttle run
The 1/2 mile shuttle run test is a physical fitness test that measures cardio-respiratory capacity, cardiovascular endurance, aerobic power, and agility. It involves running back and forth between two markers set 30 feet apart for a total distance of half a mile
