Lansing Area Under An Excessive Heat Warning
The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for the Lansing and Jackson areas. The warning is in effect from noon today (Thursday, July 18th) through 8pm on Saturday (July 20th). Heat indices will approach 100 degrees today and could exceed 105 degrees on Friday and Saturday. In addition to the warm daytime temperatures, overnight low temperatures will stay in the mid to upper 70s. The National Weather Service says that excessive heat could have the following impacts:
- Heat illnesses are likely for anyone spending prolonged periods outside or in non-air conditioned environments.
- Non- air conditioned car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in minutes.
- Direct sun on pets and other animals will accentuate chances for heat illnesses.
