A Lansing area 3-year-old is being treated for hypothermia after she was locked out of the apartment her family lives in.

According to the Associated Press the incident occurred Saturday around 8:30 a.m.  The temperature was 5 degrees when a relative found the girl outside of her home.

Investigators believe that the girl opened the door and went outside on her own.  They think that the door locked behind her making it impossible for her to get back inside.

The toddler was upgraded to stable condition on Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service this February has been one of the coldest in Michigan history. For much of the month the temperatures have been in the negative double digits.
