Mason Political Toilet Display Can Stay, Complaint Flushed Away
Political stances aside, you'd have to be a real busybody to file a formal complaint about an obvious joke.
Apparently, according to AP News, a Michigan resident tried to make a joke and show their true opinions on voting by mail by plopping a toilet in their yard with a sign that read "Place mail-in ballots here."
Now, political opinions aside, most people have a sense of humor, right? Sure, we all have varying degrees of what we think is funny and I'm, personally, in the camp that a toilet in someone's yard is funny no matter the political meaning behind it.
If someone went to the lengths to put a toilet in their yard, that is their prerogative. It is also their right to express themselves and their opinions creatively. And again, it's a toilet...in someone's yard...in an attempt to prove a point. Comedic gold.
Honestly, what (or who) does the display hurt?
Apparently an Ingham County clerk, that's who.
She decided, as AP News reported, that the display could "mislead" people who aren't as knowledgeable about how voting works.
I'm no expert on voting, but I'm pretty sure it does not take a rocket surgeon to know that your ballots do not go in a random toilet in someone's yard. But what do I know?
The complaint went all the way to the police who investigated the clearly, immensely scary situation.
After what we can only assume took hours, maybe even days, of grueling deliberation (hope you are sensing the sarcasm here) the county prosecutor has "flushed" the complaint.
AP News, citing a statement from the office of county prosecutor Carol Siemon, no evidence of intent to actually violate any Michigan law regarding absentee ballots.
So there you have it, folks, things are just going to keep getting weirder as the election draws closer and closer.
Just remember, busybodies are busybodies no matter which side of the political aisle they are on.
