I was surprised to see that the Mitten state fell behind Illinois at #5, Ohio at #17, and Wisconsin at #18. Michigan finally appeared over halfway down the list at #26 in the country.

HOW WAS THE RANKING DETERMINED?

In order to determine the most fun states in America, WalletHub compared the 50 states across two key categories, “Entertainment & Recreation” and “Nightlife.”

They evaluated those categories using 26 relevant metrics. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 indicating the greatest number and variety of fun and cost-effective options.

FIVE THINGS THAT MAKE MICHIGAN A FUN STATE

Sports Team

We have some legendary and most recognizable sports teams in America. At the pro level, you have the Lions, Tigers, Red Wings, and Pistons. At the college level, the biggest rivalry is between Michigan and Michigan State. Going to any of these sporting events or watching them on TV is a fun thing to do with friends and family

The Water

Michigan has more than 11,000 inland lakes and is connected to four out of the five Great Lakes which is a fishers paradise. Also, there are lots of great rivers to go tubing down on a nice hot summer day.

Two Peninsulas

How many other states in America have two peninsulas? The answer is ZERO. Michigan has the lower and upper peninsula which is connected by the Mackinac Bridge. Going across the bridge is fun for most unless you're scared of heights.

Ice Cream

I don't think anyone loves Ice Cream as much as my wife Lindsey but if they do I can understand why. Michigan has some amazing ice cream makers including Hudsonville Ice Cream. Nothing beats enjoying a nice bowl or cone of ice cream.

Pop

I can't pick a favorite but I can definitely mention that Michigan is home to two amazing brands Faygo and Vernors

Beer

They don't call Grand Rapids "Beer City USA" for no reason Grand Rapids as well as the entire state is full of fun bars and breweries where you can enjoy a pint and hang out.
