With firearm deer season just around the corner, the DNR is reminding hunters that they can help  feed hungry families.

Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger is working to connect donors of deer meat, processors and local charities like food banks, pantries and shelters to get venison to  hungry Michiganders in need. Established in 1991, the Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger is an organization, that coordinates with participating licensed game processors throughout the state as drop off locations for whitetail deer harvested by hunters during the hunting season.

Last year hunters donated deer that resulted in more than 50,000 pounds of ground venison, which provided about 200,000 meals to those in our state that needed assistance.

This year MSAH is working with 41 processors in 30 counties this year. Interested hunters can donate their deer through participating processors throughout the season. Hunters that donate will be eligible for MSAH’s drawing for a chance to win a wild boar hunt other prizes. MSAH will also be having an event for collection of deer at Jay’s Sporting Goods location in Clare on Saturday, November 16th, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, November 17th , from noon to 4 p.m.

If you are, or know a hunter interested in helping feed Michigan's hungry, you can get more information here.
