If it seems like you just put your shanty onto the ice of your favorite public waterway in Michigan, you're not wrong. But, it's time to get those shacks off of the ice.

WLNS.com reports that the Michigan Department of Natural Resources deadline for shanty removal from Michigan Lakes and ponds is quickly approaching.

Shanties on waters in the lower peninsula must be removed by next Friday, March 15. Upper peninsula shanties must be removed by Sunday, March 31.

If you do not remove your shanty before the deadlines, you could face still penalties, depending on the situational results. Jail time is possible, along with fines up to $500, and costs to reimburse those responsible for removing submerged shanties.
