***Breaking Story - Updated at 2:11 PM***

According to WILX, the police presence in the area was due to a call made by a young woman early Sunday morning stating that she thought her ex-boyfriend had broken into her apartment.

Lansing Police Chief Daryl Green told WILX that while hiding in her closet, an unidentified 20-year-old woman told police that she believed her former boyfriend was armed.

While there was a heavy police presence, it appeared that the suspect had fled the scene before police arrived.

WILX is reporting that police did speak to the suspected male intruder over the phone, but they are unsure why he left the apartment. No force was used during this incident, and the young woman involved is safe and being turned over to a domestic violence team.

We will continue to update this story as we have more information.
