South Lansing Event Needs Volunteers
The 12th Annual Hawk Island Triathlon is happening at Hawk Island Park on Cavanaugh in south Lansing on Sunday June 3rd and they could use your help to make it a fantastic event again this year.
Lansing City Council Member Kathie Dunbar asked me to emcee the very first race, which I agreed to do, despite having no idea how such a thing might work; a parallel to much of my life. It was SO much fun! Despite never having been a 'runner' up to that point, I loved how POSITIVE everyone was - SUCH a great feeling to be a part of the event, even though I wasn't running it.
I believe I only missed one year of being the emcee and have since tried my hand at a couple of 5Ks and a mini tri. My favorite part of those endeavors was proving to myself that I could do something I never before thought I could. Such a 'high'.
There are a variety of ways to get involved if you're interested, whether that's handing out beverages or cheering on the race participants - get more info here on how to get in on the action.
By the way, if you find my blue hat pictured above, I will give you a cash reward. That's my marathoner pal Mike Hammond on the left and Dane Robison of TimeFrame Photography on the right.
