The Shiawassee County Sheriff's office posted on their Facebook page that they are looking for the person who stole a stop sign from the intersection of Reed and Easton Roads, west of New Lothrop (north east of Owosso) earlier this month.

The stolen sign was eventually found discarded into a ditch several miles from the intersection.

It's not known exactly when the sign was stolen from the intersection, but the act was tragically unveiled on Sunday afternoon, September 9, 2018, when a vehicle traveling on Reed failed to stop at that intersection and collided with another vehicle coming in the opposite direction.

That crash seriously injured a young boy who was a passenger in the the vehicle. His injuries were life threatening, requiring emergency surgery.

Police did swab the traffic sign for DNA.

If you know anything about who might be responsible for removing the stop sign from the intersection, please notify authorities. You can send the Shiawassee County Sheriff's Office a PM or call them at (989) 720-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous!
