We here in Michigan carry great pride for our Great Lakes and soon we will be able to enjoy them like never before with Viking cruise line's “Niagara & the Great Lakes” itinerary.

According to the Associated Press, the Traverse City Record-Eagle reported about a year ago the Discovery Center & Pier announced they planned to transform a former coal dock in Greilickville into a site cruise ships could use for passengers.

This was all in an attempt to attract cruise traffic to Grand Traverse Bay.

Viking, a Swiss-based cruise company, is now building the ship in Norway and plans to visit the Great Lakes eight times after it's maiden voyage in 2022.

The "Niagra & the Great Lakes" itinerary for the Viking Octantis calls for "shuttle between Toronto and Milwaukee, with stops at Niagara Falls, Point Pelee on Lake Erie in Ontario, Detroit, Alpena and Mackinac Island."

You can check out all of the specifics on rooms and pricing for the 378-passenger ship here for the cruise experience that hopes to attract Great Lakes lovers and those interested in science alike.

An awesome way to get a fresh(water) perspective on the lakes we all know and love, would you do it?
