Which Michigan City Gets the Most Sunshine?
The warmer weather has been a nice surprise in the mid Michigan area the past few days. With so much to see and do, what do you have planned for this upcoming season? Make sure to check out some of Michigan's sunniest cities.
A while back I wrote about how Michigan is one of the cloudiest states in the U.S. I wasn't surprised to learn that. I had to remind myself that we really don't get much sun between the end of October thru March. How much sun does Michigan get in a year?
Current Results shares that while we have cities that have a lot of sun throughout the year, the top spot gets 180 days of sunshine. Doing simple math, that means that there are 185 days that aren't considered "sunny". That's more than half of the days of the year. If you're new to Michigan, buckle up, it's cloudy. If you've lived here most of your life, it should come as no surprise. Check out the criteria for the rankings:
Number of Sunny Days. The average number of Sunny Days for a city in Michigan is the total days in a year when the sky is mostly clear. This includes the days when cloud covers up to 30% of the sky during daylight hours.
Partly Sunny Days have cloud covering from 40% to 70% of the sky during the daytime.
Total Days With Sun is a sum of the Sunny plus Partly Sunny days. The rest of the days are mainly overcast, with at least 80% cloud cover. All the numbers are annual averages, made from years of weather watching.
