You’ll Love These Lansing Area Events This Cinco De Mayo

Cinco de Mayo is this Friday. A lot of folks like to go celebrate in the Lansing area. Do you know why Cinco de Mayo is a special day? It's not just a reason to go out and drink margaritas, shots of tequila, Dos Equis and fill your belly with some tasty mexican food. The History Channel explains:

Cinco de Mayo, or the fifth of May, is a holiday that celebrates the date of the Mexican army’s May 5, 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. The day, which falls on Friday, May 5 in 2023, is also known as Battle of Puebla Day. While it is a relatively minor holiday in Mexico, in the United States, Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a commemoration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations.

Lansing is home to many different ethnicities. Cinco de Mayo is a fun day to celebrate with friends. There are plenty of tasty mexican restaurants you can dine at. If you'd like to try new adventures to celebrate, check out these Lansing area events taking place to celebrate Cindo de Mayo. I won't be partaking in the tequila this year, go for it. Maybe attending these events would be a good way to celebrate and learn more about culture.

Copa de la Diversión - Cinco de Mayo Celebration with LAFCU Fireworks

This is taking place at Jackson Field. There is an initiative behind the event per the Lansing Lugnuts:

Copa de la Diversión is a special nationwide MiLB initiative, connecting teams to their Latino/a fanbase. For this special Copa game, the Lugnuts suit up as the turquoise and marigold Lansing Locos, personified by the loco Potoo bird.Once the game concludes, sit back, relax, and marvel at a LAFCU Fireworks Spectacular! ¡Vamos Locos!

This event also includes cultural information and an overall great time.

Boys in Brown presents Cinco De Mayo ft. Conjunto Rey

Cinco de Mayo 5k Walk/Run & Virtual Option

This is a great event that raises money and it takes place on Saturday, May 6:

Cafecito Caliente wishes to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with its 3rd Annual Cinco de Mayo 5k Run/Walk. This is the first leg of four races in the Running La Vida Loca Series 2023!  100% of the proceeds go to the Latino Advisory Committee which provides scholarships to Latino students in the Lansing School District. The Latino Advisory Committee was created in April of 1972 to recognize, educate and empower parents to take a proactive role in the educational and personal development of their children. We work in partnership with the Lansing School District to advocate for Latino families and their students throughout the calendar year. The race will be professionally timed by the Michigan Running Foundation. Results will be posted during the race and online at Playmakers.com.
