WLNS.com is reporting that Ford Motor Company has confirmed what experts have been long speculating. The automaker announced that its small car production will move to Mexico in 2018.

Ford is building a $1.6 billion factory in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Currently, the company's Fiesta is manufactured in Mexico. It will soon be joined by the Focus and C-Max, which are currently produced in Metro Detroit at the Ford Michigan Assembly Plant.

The company plans to add larger models to the Michigan Assembly Plant's platform, adhering to a contract signed with the UAW in 2015.
