Looks like folks up north have found a way to pass the time. Medical Marijuana is HUGE in the norther lower peninsula.  Click here to check out the story from Mlive and some FACTS. There are nearly 7 thousand licensed cardholders in Ingham County.

The story breaks down the conditions people use the Marijuana to treat. Chronic/Pain was the #1 choice. Former Detroit Red Wing Darren McCarty recently came out and said he uses Medical Marijuana to help treat his alcohol addiction. Click here to see that story.

So, somebody cue the "Reefer Madness" comments. The people determined to keep pot illegal because it's bad. Even though it has helped the lives of thousands. Not just by it being legal on the state level and they can finally sleep. Also because they don't have to go to bad areas to acquire their meds. Millions of US dollars have been funneled away from the evil Mexican Cartels. They make their money on cocaine, meth and heroin. The REAL drugs that should be enforced. The drugs even potheads think are bad. We have a prescription painkiller epidemic, where someone gets hooked on Norco, Vicodin and Oxycontin. When they can no longer get the pills, they graduate to heroin and meth. Even the D.A.R.E. program dropped pot as a gateway drug IN 2012. In that story, a former Police Chief said "kids are more in danger if it's kept illegal." Former President Jimmy Carter said "Penalties against possession of a drug should not be more damaging to an individual than the use of the drug itself."

A lot of the Marijuana money is now staying in the hands of Michiganders and improving the quality of life of those around us. Those who can grow it and grow it well, will make a fortune. It could be one of the most empowering vehicles to Michigan farmers. We used to have jobs at the factory for the less educated and under trained. For the licensed grower, the greenhouse could be the new factory.

No one wants Medical Marijuana in the hands of kids! It's more for them if the kids keep out. It may not be right for you but may be right for some.
