There are some very nice gymnasiums in Michigan. In Webberville, we have a super nice facility called the Spartan Center. When MSU Executive Chef Kurt Kwiatkowski first went there, he sent me a text telling me how awesome he thought it was. Webberville didn't show up in the list from mlive.com. Charlotte High did, they came in second place! Getting over 177 thousand votes.

Quincy was the winner by over 40 thousand votes. Quincy is on the Michigan-Ohio border in the south of the state. Almost half a million people voted. You can see the list here. The building was built in 1961 and uses big windows to capture the natural light. The boys team is 18-1 this year so it appears they have quite a home court advantage.

The new gyms are nice but they don't hold a candle to the old school buildings in character. I love the Breslin Center but I would much rather see a game at Jenison Field House. When  you walk in Jenison, you smell the stale popcorn and old sweat. You hear echoes of Magic Johnson and are overcome by nostalgia. Memories are a more powerful force than the new buildings can offer.

Just looking at the pictures of the Quincy gym reminds me of the movie Hoosiers.
