3 Big Takeaways From Michigan State’s Week 1 Depth Chart
Michigan State released its Week 1 depth chart on Tuesday, ahead of Friday's season opener versus Furman:
Here are three big takeaways from the initial starting group:
- 1
Three-headed Monster In The Backfield
Michigan State's three running backs split carries a season ago, and so far there's no real separation between them.
LJ Scott, Madre London and Gerald Holmes are all listed as starters (with the infamous "OR" denotation) on the first depth chart. Mark Dantonio said any three of them could start, but co-offensive coordinator Dave Warner has said MSU wants to pick out one feature back this season.
Looks like this position battle will continue into the season.

Graduate Transfer Starting On Defensive Line
Kevin Williams, who came to MSU this offseason by way of graduate transfer from Nebraska, is listed as a starter at defensive tackle opposite Malik McDowell.
Williams appears to have the lead over redshirt freshman Raequan Williams, who the coaches have said has had an impressive training camp. Dantonio noted on Tuesday that he's not ready to anoint anyone the starter just yet, though.

Close Race At Linebacker
Junior Chris Frey and sophomore Andrew Dowell continue to duke it out for the starting spot at star linebacker.
Dowell had edged Frey out earlier in camp, but Frey had led the race prior.
