Frances Park. 1978, the sight of my first Safety Patrol Picnic with my friends from Gier Park Elementary.

On Tuesday, representatives from Lansing, East Lansing, Haslett, Charlotte and all over the Greater Lansing area, came to feast on hot dogs, doughnuts and soft drinks, to their hearts content! The annual event set forth by the Lansing Area Safety Council as a thank you to all of those that keep a watchful eye on their fellow schoolmates throughout the course of the year.

Aside from music provided by WMMQ's own Nick Chase, the kids were treated to hands on exercises and demonstrations from the Lansing Fire and Police Department, Michigan State Police, Ingham County Sheriff's Department, INgham County 911, Grand Ledge PD, Eaton and Clinton County Sheriff's Department and even the FBI!

Members of the League of Enchantment were represented by Batman, Wonder Woman and the Scarlet Witch. Even City of Lansing Mayor Andy Schorr was present to award one lucky nominee, the Safety Patrol of the Year Award for outstanding service and growth throughout the year. A trophy which will bear their name for eternity and will be held in the school showcase until the 2019 picnic.

The day would have not been complete without an appearance from MSU mascot, "Sparty", who made a grand entrance just in time to present the trophy.

All in all, a grand time was had as the rain cleared, the food was cooked and the music was played.
