National Police Week is coming up May 12-18.

On Monday May 6th at the State Capital, the MI-Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) are having their 26th annual Law Enforcement Candlelight Memorial Service at 7pm. The ceremony is about a half hour long.

This year they are honoring the life and dedicated service of Officer Fadi Shukur from the Detroit police Department. Click here for more info.

For the past few years, the number of uniformed personnel attendance has dwindled. The uniformed people help form a cordon for the families to walk through. Plus, the uniformed people become the backdrop on the steps of the capital.

I recently read a study that said more police died by suicide than in the line-of-duty. Click here to see that.

I know how people like more than one source, so in the other study I saw, it said police AND firefighters. Click here to see that.

One study said for 3 straight years police suicides outnumber the line-of-duty deaths. Click here to see it.

There is someone in our area who specializes in therapy for first responders. Click here to see that story.

A great place to thank a cop during the month of May is Cops & Doughnuts at Creyts and 496.
