Cheezy D's Deli & Dogs was (sadly) a short-lived sandwich, hotdog, and ice cream place out in Haslett at the corner of Lake Lansing and Marsh roads. Patrons loved their loaded hot dogs and tater tots, and of course, they served up some delicious ice cream too.

Unfortunately, Cheezy D's was open for less than two years before they announced that they would be closing permanently. In a post made to Facebook on December 19th, 2021, the owner gave many reasons why they decided to close for good; struggles with Covid, personal health, their farm, and their family.

The post also included a bit of hope for the future, saying "we do have a pending owner, we will know for sure Thursday. If so he is an amazing young Chef." But since then, we haven't heard any movement or rumblings from Cheezy D's or any prospective buyers. And at this time (August 10th, 2022), Cheezy D's still remains closed.

What's the Future of Cheezy D's Deli & Dogs in Haslett?

It seems like a Lansing area business was interested in purchasing the building...In a post to the Lansing Foodies Facebook Page back in May, Saddleback Barbecue said they reached out via email four times and called saying they were interested in buying the building, but never received any word back. In that same Facebook thread, Saddleback mentioned that they were ghosted by another Lansing business, Mr. Taco. Mr. Taco apparently reached out to Saddleback asking them to buy the business but then wouldn't give Saddleback a price, and that is where the conversation seemed to end.

All in all, I think the Haslett/East Lansing area would like to see something take over that space. In particular, an ice cream shop. But for right now, the building sits vacant and unused with all the old signage still up. Rest in Peace, Cheezy D's.

If there is a business owner or entrepreneur that's interested in buying Cheezy D's, here are some things we might like to see take its place. Granted, these suggestions are for the old Tim Horton's on Jolly Road, but some of them could work here, too.
