A Wall Street Journal report via NBC News and WILX.com says that both General Motors and Ford Motor Company both have plans to discontinue popular models.

GM will end production of the Chevy Sonic, while Ford will cease production of its Taurus and Fiesta models. There is no timetable stated for the Taurus and Fiesta, but, GM could end the Sonic by year's end.

Both companies cite consumer demand for sport utility vehicles, due to higher fuel efficiency and lower gas prices, as the reasoning behind ending the production on sedans.
