On this day back in 1837, Michigan became the 26th state. The name Michigan is the French form of the Ojibwa word mishigamaa, meaning "large water" or "large lake" but there is WAY more to Michigan than the water.

We get all 4 seasons. For the most part, we all have a blue collar work ethic encoded in our DNA. We gave the world Motown, some awesome automobiles and many American icons.

In 1920 WWJ (AM) in Detroit became the first radio station in the United States to regularly broadcast commercial programs.

in 1985, Classic Rock 94.9 WMMQ became the FIRST CLASSIC ROCK STATION IN THE NATION! Fred Jacobs from Jacobs Media is known as the Godfather of Classic Rock and he will vouch for our station. We celebrate 30 years this year. Thank you for rocking with us.
