Plans to build a community soccer field in Downtown Lansing's Ferris Park is one big step closer to a reality. Last month, Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero announced his crowdfunding campaign, looking to raise $60 Thousand. According to this article at lsj.com, the goal has been surpassed, with still two days left in the campaign.

LSJ.com cites contributions from not only businesses like Jackson National Life, Wieland-Davco Contractors, and Delta Dental, but numerous contributions from individuals around town. The plans for the park call for a synthetic turf, complete with kickboards and solar lighting. The best part about the plan for residents is that there will be no charge to use Beacon Field.

With the $60 Thousand dollars raised through the crowdfund, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation will match that amount. The City of Lansing will foot the remaining money for the estimated $200 Thousand dollar project.
