Before we discuss Michigan, have you driven in other states?

Some folks in Michigan haven't driven in other states. Contrary to popular belief, California was a joy to drive in. Our family took a trip to California at the beginning of August. Although it took us 2 hours to go thirty miles from LAX to our hotel in Anaheim, it wasn't like driving in Detroit traffic.

Driving in Los Angeles was easy and I had zero issues with any drivers. I drove like I lived there. If you go the speed of traffic, when it's moving, you'll be in good shape. The drivers in California were surprisingly respectful. I'll take driving in L.A. over Detroit any day of the week.

How safe are Michigan drivers, where did Michigan rank?

To get a good idea about how safe drivers in Michigan are, you should go to another state to drive and find out for yourself. In the meantime, World Population Review did the nerd work for us.

I definitely thought we were in the top 10 for unsafest states to drive. That's impressive, Michigan. This is how Michigan scored:

Drivers Insured - 74.5%

DUI Arrests per 1,000 drivers - 3.58

Fatalities per 100,000 drivers - .96

Sometimes you just need to get out of Michigan to experience something different. When it comes to driving, it's easy to assume Michigan is the worst based on the fact that we live here and driver here everyday. Michigan is a safe state to drive.
