Before we discuss Michigan, have you driven in other states?

Some folks in Michigan haven't driven in other states. Contrary to popular belief, California was a joy to drive in. Our family took a trip to California at the beginning of August. Although it took us 2 hours to go thirty miles from LAX to our hotel in Anaheim, it wasn't like driving in Detroit traffic.

Driving in Los Angeles was easy and I had zero issues with any drivers. I drove like I lived there. If you go the speed of traffic, when it's moving, you'll be in good shape. The drivers in California were surprisingly respectful. I'll take driving in L.A. over Detroit any day of the week.

How safe are Michigan drivers, where did Michigan rank?

To get a good idea about how safe drivers in Michigan are, you should go to another state to drive and find out for yourself. In the meantime, World Population Review did the nerd work for us.

Here's the criteria used for the rankings:

The first metric was the percentage of insured drivers within the state. The next metric was the number of DUI arrests per every thousand drivers. The third metric was the number of fatalities per 100,000 miles driven.
