More Than Just Fireworks: What to Do in Mid-Michigan This Weekend

4th of July Weekend is upon us, and the weather in Mid-Michigan looks like it's going to be stellar for any planned outdoor celebrations.

Like any self-respecting American, you'll want to take in an amazing fireworks display. You can find our list of places to check out the state's best pro displays here.

But in the event you're in the mood for a little more than that, here are some cool things going on this weekend that you'd might like to plug into.

The Battle Creek Field of Flight Air Show & Balloon Festival is happening June 30th through July 4th. This event features four days of air shows, including the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, the USAF F-35A, the U.S. Navy F-35C, and the U.S. Navy F-18 Rhino. There's also a night air show featuring pyrotechnics, hot air balloons, live music, a carnival, fireworks and more. It's all going on on the grounds of the Battle Creek Executive Airport.

Hungry for a good time? Head to the 3-day Grand Rapids Foodie Fest, being held on Calder Plaza July 1st through July 3rd. It's the first year for this event, which promises "various varieties of all your favorite cuisines while showcasing local retail and small business merchant vendors". Admission is free.

In Lake Orion's Centerbury Village, you'll find the annual Michigan Rib Fest. If you're a connoisseur of all things barbecue, you won't regret the drive. In addition to mouth-watering ribs and beer, more than a dozen vendors will be on-site with pulled pork, brisket, and all your favorite side dishes. The event also features monster truck rides and live music along with pig and wiener dog races.
