It was one year ago today that an EF-1 tornado wreaked havoc on the small town of Portland, just west of Lansing, destroying homes, churches and businesses. The physical damage was in the millions of dollars.

The Lansing State Journal reports that today, the residents of the small town will hold a service downtown at Bridge and Smith streets from 7 to 8 PM, to recognize the strength and grace with which the community recovered from the storm.
