Pet owners in Michigan should be aware of a pet food recall on dog and cat food sold in Michigan. According to clickondetroit.com, Evanger's Dog and Cat Food Company, Inc. is reportedly recalling its Hunk Of Beef brand of pet food after a possible contamination. Pentobarbitol was detected in Hunk Of Beef Au Jus manufactured in June of 2016. The canned dog food could potentially be contaminated with the drug commonly used by veterinarians for euthanasia.

According to the report, to date, five dogs have gotten sick from the contamination; one of those five dogs died.

The recall affects Evanger's Hunk Of Beef products with lot numbers on the cans starting with 1816E03HB, 1816E04HB, 1816E06HB, 1816E07HB, and 1816E13HB. Affected products will also have an expiration date of June 2020, and the second half of the barcode will read 20109.
