Pork Belly #8 on Most Nutritious Foods List
My Honey told me last night that his friend, who happens to work for the National Pork Board, sent him a story about the world's most nutritious foods. Pork belly, bacon, was number 8 on the list.
I called 'foul' on the story and asked how much money the Pork Board spent to conduct the study and My Honey insisted that the story was legit, as reported here by the BBC.
After analyzing more than 1,000 raw foods, researchers ranked the ingredients that provide the best balance of your daily nutritional requirements – and they found a few surprises. Needless to say, pork fat is one of the pleasant surprises as it is more unsaturated and healthier than lamb or beef fat. Also, it is a good source of B vitamins and minerals, which are vital for our human body. One nutritionist...said that pork fat is actually rich in oleic acid and contains 60 per cent monounsaturated fat.
That said, excessive consumption of pork belly can lead to health problems due to its high fat content.
#1 most nutritious food in the world, according to this story? Almonds. Go with dry-roasted, maybe a little salt on 'em.
