You can only see you have a call coming in from an unknown number only to answer and hear "WE'VE BEEN TRYING TO REACH YOU ABOUT YOUR CAR'S EXTENDED WARRANTY" so many times before you lose your damn mind.

I am a very social person and actually do love talking on the phone but, that being said, I also hate getting calls from unknown numbers because it's always someone either trying to scam me or sell me on something.

One time, I did answer an unknown call, it was the dreaded "extended warranty" people. I decided after months of getting these calls I would finally just go through and talk to someone.

First, they didn't even know my car or anything about me which was suspicious seems how THEY were calling ME. Then, I tell them my car has over 300,000 miles on it, the guy patronizingly asked "don't you mean 30,000." I then got an attitude and said "No, three-zero-zero, 300,000."

He then responded "I can't extend the warranty on a car with that many miles" and hung up on me as I was in the middle of yelling "THEN STOP CALLING ME."

That example alone has soured me against answering unknown numbers and I am actually not the only one!

According to USA Today, a new survey has found that 94% of people have stopped answering unknown numbers as robocalls persist.

Just last month, USA Today cites YouMail's Robocall Index in reporting there were an average of 129.5 million robocalls per day which amounts to about 1,500 calls per second.

It's so hard to want to pick up your phone when it calls but I've realized the value in thinking "If it's important, they'll leave a voicemail."

The especially frustrating thing was actually when I was in the process of getting hired for this job. I would get those dang scam calls with a 517 area code and be all excited to answer thinking it was someone from the radio station calling only to be completely disappointed to answer someone pretending to want to help me consolidate my student loan debt.

When you think about it, maybe it is a little sad that we've become such a fast-paced society that even just taking two seconds to answer a worthless call is such an inconvenience but you know what, this is the hill I choose to die on...let's hope it's one without cell service.
