Prior to moving to Lansing I knew it was the holiday season because of my calendar. Nowadays I know the holidays are here because of Silver Bells in the City. Silver Bells started in 1984 and has grown to be the parade and festival we know today.

I've created some awesome memories at Silver Bells in the City. I've participated in the parade on a float a couple of times. That is a lot of fun and gives you a different perspective to how big the parade and crowd is. I have also been there many times with my family to enjoy the festivities. Best piece of advice I can offer is pay attention to the weather forecast and be sure to dress warm if it's going to be cold.

About Silver Bells

Silver Bells started in 1984 by the Arts Council of Greater Lansing and has grown into the full blown extravaganza the city experiences today, Silver Bells continues to provide fun for the parade goers in 2022. It wasn't until the 3rd year that they lit the State Christmas Tree at the event, that tradition lives on today.

Over time, Silver Bells has added tons of attractions like ice sculptures, carriage rides and local venues open to the public. In 1997 the first electric light parade took place on Friday night and attendance climbed. Santa made his first appearance in 2000 and they added fireworks to the event in 2001. Rooftop lighting in downtown Lansing was added in 2003.

In 2010 the first village appeared at Silver Bells. Check that out if you go, you'll find unique goods, refreshments along with 20+ vendors.

If you want culture, you'll find it at Silver Bells in the City. They will have nearly 50 arts and cultural entertainers. If you like free cookies and cider, they will be free at any of the five locations throughout the city. Silver Bells in the City will wrap up with a concert at the Lansing Center.
