The Pros & Cons Of Alcohol Sales at Spartan Stadium in 2023

Michigan State University is bringin' the party in 2023. MSU will be selling alcohol at sporting events soon. Is this a good thing or bad thing for MSU and the fans? Here come the pros and cons.

I've been a Spartan fan since I moved to the East Lansing are in 1996. Part of the attraction to MSU is the tailgating before, sometimes during, and after the game. Before I began my recovery from alcohol, let me tell you, I had many crazy good times. We used to drink all day long and consumed way too much booze.

By the time we got on the bus from the commuter lot at Farm Lane and Mount Hope, we were nearly hungover. That's where the travel flask came in. Once we were at Spartan Stadium we felt pretty good and went into the game. Of course we were loud and obnoxious occassionally, but it was all in fun, so we thought.

This was years ago, had Spartan Stadium been selling alcohol at the time, we would have bought it at the concession stand. It's crazy to think that you will soon be able to buy alcohol at home MSU football games.

I live a sober life now and personally think things will be ok.

MSU could be selling alcohol by the third home game this season against Washington. If that's the case, here are some of the good and bad, the pros and cons about alcohol sales at Spartan Stadium

Pros of Selling Alcohol at MSU Home Games

Could it curb binge drinking?

Maybe the idea of trying to consume so much alcohol in a very short time will magically disappear. Fans will be patient and slow down a little because they know that they can purchase alcohol within the stadium. We'll see.

Could there be less chaos at tailgates?

See above referring to binge drinking. I've been to a ton of tailgates that were a blast. I've been to some that were CRAZY. If there's something to look forward to once you get to the stadium, ya might pace yourself.

People will get to stadium sooner.

Why not get to the stadium sooner to grab a beer? Beat the crowd. Getting into Spartan Stadium can be a pain in the butt, people will want to get to the game sooner to buy their beer before lines are crazy.

This will be great way to test your bladder!

The lines for the men's room are bad. The lines for the women's room are worse. If you have never realized the true potential of your bladder, you will soon find out.

Add staff to Spartan Stadium offers employment opportunities.

Someone has to pour the beer. MSU has struggled to get fans into the stands, this could be good for increase in crowd size. Getting more fans to the game means more staff will need to work.

Cons About Selling Alcohol at MSU Home Games

Drunks will continue to get drunk.

Let's be real, fans will tailgate their normal way and come to Spartan Stadium feeling no pain. Either they will continue to party or they will pass out.

Fights amongs fans in the stands could increase.

Don't let the picture fool you. Tempers flare in the stands. Add alcohol, a national night game on TV against U of M and it could get intense.

People passing out in their seats.

Yeah, the guy in the pic above made it into the game. He's sitting next to you. He spilled his beer on you and has completely passed out on your seat. Ya better hope he doesn't puke. He tried to hold your hand.

Everyone is going to be peeing, at the same time.

Yeah, the same toilet you were dreaming about during your bladder workout is now your top desire. Good luck getting to it at half time.
