You May Be More Likely To Get Bed Bugs If You Live In These Michigan Cities
Bed Bugs. Just hearing the words makes you want to itch yourself and worry, and if you're living in Michigan, you may have to worry a little more about interacting with them up close and personal.
Here's the annual top ten list you DON'T want your city to be on... Orkin just posted its 2022 list of the top cities for BED BUGS.
Each year, they rank the top 50 cities for bed bugs by looking at how many people used exterminators over the past 12 months. What about the mitten? Are we safe from bed bugs?
Not exactly.
While Chicago was #1 for the second year in a row, with Philadelphia in second and Washington D.C. following up in third... the fourth city? Right here in Michigan: it's Detroit.
But Detroit wasn't the only Michigan city to make the list. Wrapping up the top ten at number ten was... Grand Rapids.
Grand Rapids moved up 3 spots on the list this year, but that doesn't mean you have to panic about a sudden city-wide infestation.
In fact, according to Orkin themselves there are a few steps you can take to avoid having unwelcomed visitors:
Remove all clutter from your home, which makes finding bed bugs easier.
Wash and dry your bed linens often using the hottest temperature allowed for the fabric.
Closely inspect any second-hand furniture for bed bugs before you bring it into your residence.
Do not bring discarded furniture into your residence – there’s a reason it was left by, or in, the dumpster.
Inspect your residence regularly—after a move-in, a trip, when a service worker comes in or guests stay overnight.
While no one wants to get bed bugs, hopefully in the future we can get ourselves off this list. Good luck out there.
