Throwback Thursday: Michigan State National Champions
14 years ago today, I was sitting in a hospital bed at U of M dressed in all green watching MSU win their first National Championship since 1979. Tom Izzo had just been head coach for 5 years and the "Flintstones" Mateen Cleaves, Charlie Bell and Morris Peterson helped MSU beat Florida 89-76. A great day in the history of MSU basketball.
The Spartans saw 3 players get taken in the first round in the following draft. Jason Richardson was taken by Golden State with the 5th pick. Mateen Cleaves went to the Pistons with pick 14. Morris Peterson was selected by Toronto with the 21st pick.
Let's take a trip down memory lane with the MSU "one shining moment" video that followed the victory.
