Nine cities in the state of Michigan made the list of 101 safest in the US, according to SafeHome.org.

The finding were primarily based on low crime rates, which SafeHome says gives resident peace of mind.

Topping the list of safest cities in the US is Greenwich, Ct.

Here are Michigan cities that made the top 101, all of which are in the Detroit area:

  • Rochester Hills (#6)
  • West Bloomfield Township (#12)
  • Farmington Hills (#42)
  • Royal Oak (#46)
  • Shelby Township (#47)
  • Novi (#56)
  • Canton Township (#67)
  • St. Clair Shores (#84)
  • Sterling Heights (#98)

The results are based on cities with a population of over 50,000 people.

"We analyzed data from the FBI to statistically find out which cities are the safest in the nation. The FBI data is compiled from the information provided by 13,366 law enforcement agencies. We also used the Chapman University Survey of American Fears to highlight the crime rates of what Americans fear most, between violent crime and property crime rates."
