Detroit Brand Gets Oscar Shout Out, Detroiters Hate It
When director Peter Farrelly picked up the Best Picture Oscar Sunday night for 'Green Book', he gave a shout out to Detroit watchmaker Shinola. Naturally, Detroiters gave him crap for it, because they can't have nice things.
According to t e Detroit Free Press, several Detroiters raised their eyebrows at the 'saving Detroit' part, like Branden Hunter, who said the moment got away from Peter.
And then US Representative Rashida Tlaib weighed in.
Not all Detroiters were upset, and certainly some Tweeted out some Detroit love as well, but this reaction may be a microcosm of Detroit's inability to get everyone on board with recent improvements.
