If you didn't yet hear, the Lansing City Council voted unanimously Monday night to put together a permit system that would create a 'go around' to the city's ban on overnight parking between 2:00 - 5:00 AM. It doesn't sound as if the pretty common practice of violating that ordinance is enforced with tickets or tows.

The Lansing State Journal has an in-depth look at the prospect here, including other cities upon which the idea was modeled.

The purchased permit, which could come into play as soon as next year, would be offered on an annual basis and would be invalid during snow removal or emergency public works projects.

The permits would be available only for certain streets; the idea is to come up with some better solutions for densely populated neighborhoods.

And don't think you'd be getting your very own 'spot' - you just take what's open in the designated areas.

If you've got opinions to share, you're always encouraged to attend a Lansing City Council meeting/contact your council person.
