The "MSU vs U of M Culinary Throwdown" began in Ann Arbor four years ago, the same day as the storied rivals faced off on the football field. The Culinary Throwdown "Pork Board" (pictured above) went to MSU that year and the following two years.

Last year, University of Michigan Executive Chef Frank Turchan and his crew took possession of the coveted 'Pork Board'. The Spartans were not pleased.

The MSU vs U of M Culinary Throwdown took place this past Saturday morning at Shaw and Farm Lane on MSU's campus in East Lansing, where they were making pulled pork and mac & cheese and giving it away while it lasted, along with delicious breakfast sammies.

The judges had perfect scores for Chef Kurt's pork cutlets wrapped around a soft poached egg, then deep fried served with a smoked tomato sauce and pickled squash (see below).

MSU Executive Chefs Eric Batten and Chef Dien Li also delivered delicious concoctions, along with MSU Students Jammie Simmons and Meagan Dowell, who both work for The Gallery dining facility on campus.
