Michigan's Best Classic Rock Artists

#1 is Bob Seger. It's not even worth arguing. His music has provided the soundtrack of the lives of countless Michiganders and connects people of all age groups. It's sad to me Bryan Adams has a greater net worth. This man is a Michigan treasure. Just lost Alto Reed in December.

My second favorite Michigan artist is close but it goes to Alice Cooper. This is largely based on my reaction to scream my head off whenever "Be My Lover" comes on. It's hard not to scream to "Hello Hooray" too. Like Bob, too many great tunes to mention. I think he is the smartest of all the musicians from Michigan. He may have started somewhere else but Alice Cooper made his name in Michigan.

Grand Funk Railroad gets the #3 spot. They were a 3 piece so it seems rather fitting.

Glen Frey had some major success. Not just with the Eagles but solo. It's a funny story about Bob Seger's ONLY #1 "Shakedown." It was supposed to go to Glen Frey but he was sick and passed it to Bob Seger to keep the MONEY IN MICHIGAN!

Ted Nugent HAS to be on any top 10 from Michigan list... Politics aside. He is a shredder of the guitar and those "Whiplash Bashes" were legendary. Kid Rock is NOT Classic Rock, so don't expect him to show up here.

Iggy Pop can never seem to find a shirt that fits. Iggy and The Stooges are Detroit Royalty. The Romantics started in Detroit. As did the MC5. The song starts out... "KICK OUT THE JAMS MOTHER F*******!" Alice Cooper said "the song sound like it could fall apart at any second but they hold it together... The sign of a great song.

Bill Haley and his Comets get credit for being the World's first Rock and Roll anthem. He was born in Detroit. The Romantics also came from Detroit but I replaced them with Brownsville Station. "Martian Boogie" and "Smokin' in the Boys Room" got them in this party.

I didn't just put Greta Van Fleet in there to piss people off. THEY may not be a Classic Rock band but that sound is sure Classic to a lot of people. With 5 #1 hits, they have more than Bob Seger, Ted Nugent and Alice Cooper combined.

The Knack, Frost Music, Tommy James, Ded Engine, Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels... So many came close. But damn, look at the time. I have to go.
