Downtown Lansing to Get Food Market & Hotel
Details and mock-up pics were released yesterday for the new development by the Gillespie Group, which will bring a grocery store to downtown Lansing again for the first time in many years. Meijer will operate the market.
The Capital City Market project will spiff up the stretch of Michigan Avenue just east of Larch Street, diagonal from Cooley Law School Stadium, with a four-story structure that will include a hotel, apartments, restaurant and bar. The plan includes 300 parking spaces.
The site, which was the former site of a gas station and tire center, will need to be cleaned of contaminants; that will begin in the spring of 2019, then construction of the $40 million project will begin.
Estimates are that the construction will be completed towards the end of 2020.
