A Lansing Fire Department ambulance was one of seven vehicles involved in a serious accident at the intersection of Cedar Street and Miller Road Monday evening on Lansing's south side. Lansing Fire officials say that the the ambulance was on an active run, transporting a patient. That patient and an EMT were among nine injuries. The seriousness of the injuries is not known at this time. but, Lansing Fire and Police officials say that there were no fatalities.

Massive crowds gathered near the accident scene in parking lots of Payless Shoe Source and Happy's Pizza, observing the accident investigation. Neighbors described what they saw and heard, though those accounts are yet to be confirmed by Lansing Police or regional accident investigators. One man involved in the wreck says that a small black Mazda did not yield for the oncoming ambulance, which had its lights and sirens on as it approached the intersection. According to the involved party, the ambulance struck the Mazda, setting off a chain reaction with the other five vehicles, including his Ford pickup.

One neighbor who witnessed the wreck says that the stoplight at the intersection of Cedar and Miller was not properly functioning, flashing yellow for northbound and southbound traffic on Cedar and red flashing lights were serving both directions of Miller, and the left turn lanes on Cedar. That witness said that he reported the malfunctioning stoplight as early as approximately 3:00PM Monday afternoon. Lansing Police officials on scene could not confirm nor deny this witness report.
