According to a report from WILX.com, the reason for a lane closure on one of East Lansing's most traveled roadways is due to a failure with road's base.

What is being described as a cavity in the surface has forced the insode lane of Westbound Michigan Avenue to be closed until further notice. WILX reports that there is no actual hole in the roadway. But, it has settled and dipped enough for concren.

The cavity is said to be about 4 feet deep in a 12 foot by 8 foot area in thatg interior lane.
