Foo Fighters in Concert: Exclusive Photo Gallery
The Foo Fighters' Concrete and Gold trek is one of this summer's biggest tours, but there's something a little bit special when it stops in some of the nation's most historic ballparks.
The band was joined by Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen during the first of two nights at Chicago's Wrigley Field, and Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh joined them onstage at the second show at Boston's Fenway Park. But even without the high-profile special guests, there's an intangible excitement in the air when surrounded by the ghosts of a century-and-change old venue, evident during the band's first Fenway gig on July 21.
From Dave Grohl's opening sprint out of the wings to the Fenway Park stage and onto the ramp that stretched almost to the infield, it was clear the show was going to be different from the last time the Foos played the stadium in 2015 -- when the frontman was on lock-down in a customized throne, the result of a nasty fall off the stage earlier that year.
Grohl referenced his previous immobility multiple times, promising to make up for it, and keeping his word as he declared from the outset, "I'm not fuckin' sittin' down tonight. I'm gonna fuckin' run my ass all night!"
He was amped to 11 the entire evening, from the opening notes of "All My Life" through a set of 24 songs culled from eight of the band's nine LPs, with only the 2014 LP Sonic Highways ignored. Dousing himself with water early on, Grohl's energy was infectious even when he wandering into jam territory -- like "The Pretender," which was extended to more than 10 minutes.
Check out our exclusive photos from the show, as well as some pics from the Foo Fighters' opening band during this run, the Struts.
