This past Saturday Night was our once a year feature “Cover Songs”. And boy did we find some. A couple of the more unusual requests were songs by bands we normally would never play on a Classic Rock station.

However they were mass appeal songs when they were originally released. But it was still cool to step a little bit out of the box. The first was an instrumental originally released in the 60’s by the Chantays, the song Pipeline was a huge surfer song, and a big hit. The version we played was by Anthrax. An obviously harder and darker version. We also played a request by Simon and Garfunkel that also came out in the 60’s from the movie Mrs. Robinson, we played “The Sound of Silence”, by Disturbed. A very dark but cool version of a 60’s pop song.

Some of the other interesting covers were Grateful Dead covering Traffic with “Dear Mr. Fantasy”, as well as UFO covering ZZ Top with ‘Just Got Paid Today”. I could go on, but you can see for yourself what we played. It’s always a fun and interesting show as even the Superstar bands do covers. Next Saturday join us as we feature Yes on All Request Saturday Night.
