Paul McCartney Once Again Walks Across Abbey Road
It sounds like a setup for a joke: Why did Paul McCartney cross the road?
To get to a gig on the other side, apparently -- which wouldn’t be such a big deal, were it not for the fact that the road he crossed was Abbey Road, at the same crossing photographer Iain Macmillan captured for the iconic cover of the Beatles’ Abbey Road album in 1969.
McCartney was heading to Abbey Road Studios, where he would play a surprise show in support of his forthcoming album, Egypt Station.
His trek on the crosswalk was captured on cellphone video by his daughter Mary, who posted it on Instagram.
One should notice he did not go barefoot, as he did on the Abbey Road cover (which fueled rumors of his death among Beatles fans at the time); Macca opted for wearing sandals with socks this time around.
Watch Paul McCartney cross Abbey Road again:
McCartney fans might recall a previous road crossing at the same spot, which was captured and used as the cover of his 1993 live album, Paul Is Live.
McCartney is revving up the promotion machine for Egypt Station, which is scheduled for release Sept. 7. Two songs from Egypt Station -- "I Don't Know" and "Come On to Me," -- were released in advance of the album.
McCartney was also a guest on The Late Late Show With James Corden, singing Beatles songs with the host during a “Carpool Karaoke” segment filmed in Liverpool. During the program, McCartney also played a gig at a small pub, which made him eager to do some more intimate shows before his world tour kicks off in Canada Sept. 17.
